RoDTEP in 2026: Status, Rates, the 31 December Deadline and How to Claim
One Source IE Knowledgebase · Guide 5
A complete guide to India's RoDTEP export incentive in 2026. DGFT Notification 41/2026-27 of 30 September 2026 extended it to 31 December 2026 at unchanged rates and value caps for domestic, Advance Authorisation, SEZ and EOU exporters. The guide gives the dated 2026 timeline (the 50% cut of 23 February, restoration on 23 March, extensions on 31 March and 30 September), explains how to find your rate in Appendix 4R or 4RE, how to claim on the shipping bill and ICEGATE, and how RoDTEP combines with duty drawback and RoSCTL, and includes a free benefit estimator. Checked against official sources on 8 October 2026.
RoDTEP is available until 31 December 2026, at the same rates and value caps that applied on 30 September 2026. DGFT Notification 41/2026-27 extended it for domestic (DTA) exporters, Advance Authorisation holders, SEZ units and EOUs. It refunds embedded central, state and local taxes that no other scheme returns, as a percentage of FOB value, and you claim it by declaring it on the shipping bill. The credit then arrives as an e-scrip on ICEGATE. After 31 December it ends unless DGFT extends it again.
RoDTEP benefit estimator
Enter the figures for one shipping bill item. Take the rate and the per-unit cap from Appendix 4R or 4RE for your 8-digit HS code. It runs in your browser and stores nothing.
Enter the FOB value and the rate to see the estimate.
An estimate only. Actual credit is calculated by customs on the processed shipping bill, using the notified rates and caps. Not legal or tax advice.
The 2026 timeline: the live tracker
RoDTEP changed more in the first nine months of 2026 than in the previous two years. Here is each step, newest first.
| Date | Status | What changed | Notification | Next check |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 30 Sep 2026 | In force | RoDTEP is extended to 31 December 2026. The rates and value caps in Appendix 4R and 4RE as applicable on 30 September 2026 continue unchanged, along with all other terms. It names DTA units, Advance Authorisation holders, SEZ units and EOUs. | DGFT Notification 41/2026-27 | Mid-December 2026 |
| 31 Mar 2026 | Notified | RoDTEP is extended for six months, 1 April to 30 September 2026, at existing rates, as reported in trade guides. | DGFT Notification 74/2025-26 | Closed |
| 23 Mar 2026 | Notified | Rates and value caps restored to those in force on 22 February 2026, withdrawing the 50% restriction. The Commerce Ministry cited the West Asia trade disruptions. A corrigendum and trade reports indicate the restoration covers exports from 23 February to 31 March 2026. | DGFT Notification 66/2025-26 and corrigendum | Closed |
| 23 Feb 2026 | Withdrawn | Rates and value caps are cut to 50% for most products with immediate effect. A corrigendum of 24 February excluded HS Chapters 01 to 24 (agri and food) from the cut. | DGFT Notification 60/2025-26 | Closed |
| Union Budget 2026-27 | Reported | RoDTEP’s allocation is reported at about ₹10,000 crore for 2026-27, against a revised ₹18,233 crore estimate for 2025-26. The Commerce Ministry has sought a five-year extension. | Budget documents; press reports | Mid-December 2026 |

What RoDTEP is
RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) refunds central, state and local taxes and levies that remain embedded in an exported product and are not returned by any other scheme. Examples include fuel and electricity duty and mandi tax. The refund is a notified percentage of the FOB value, with a per-unit cap on some products. It replaced the older MEIS, which gave credits linked to export value without reference to taxes actually borne.
- Who: exporters of goods, both manufacturers and merchant exporters, with an Importer Exporter Code. There is no minimum turnover.
- Where it applies: domestic (DTA) exports under Appendix 4R, and Advance Authorisation, EOU and SEZ exports under Appendix 4RE.
- What it is not: it does not apply to services, and it does not refund taxes that are already neutralised through GST input credit or duty drawback.
- How it is paid: as a transferable electronic credit (an e-scrip) on ICEGATE, not as cash in your bank account. Exporters can use it to pay basic customs duty on imports or transfer it to another IEC holder.
How to find your rate
- Get the 8-digit ITC-HS code for your product from your commercial invoice and shipping bill. The first six digits are the global HS code.
- Open the appendix on the DGFT website. Appendix 4R covers domestic exports, and Appendix 4RE covers Advance Authorisation, EOU and SEZ exports. Search the code in the rate list.
- Note both figures: the rate as a percentage of FOB value, and the per-unit value cap if one is shown (for example a rupee amount per kilogram or per piece).
- Calculate your benefit: the lower of (rate x FOB value) and (cap x quantity).
- Check the date. Use the rate list in force on the date of export. The September 2026 notification keeps the rates and caps as on 30 September 2026 until 31 December 2026.
Worked example (illustrative figures)
| Item | Figure |
|---|---|
| FOB value of the item | ₹10,00,000 |
| Notified rate (illustrative) | 1.5% of FOB |
| Per-unit cap (illustrative) | ₹40 per kg on 20,000 kg |
| Rate x FOB value | ₹15,000 |
| Cap x quantity | ₹8,00,000 |
| Benefit (the lower figure) | ₹15,000 |
The rate and cap above are made up to show the method. Always use the figures for your own HS code from the appendix.
Trade guides report that rates run from roughly 0.3% to 4.3% of FOB value, and that Appendix 4RE rates are set separately from Appendix 4R. Treat any band as indicative, and look up your own line.
How to claim on the shipping bill and ICEGATE
- Be registered. You need a valid IEC and an ICEGATE login (with a digital signature where required). Your AD code and bank account should already be registered, as in Guide 1.
- Declare the claim on the shipping bill. When the shipping bill is filed, the RoDTEP declaration is made for each eligible item, in the declarations table, so that the system can calculate the claim. This cannot be added later.
- Customs processes the bill. After processing and the filing of the export manifest, the claim is calculated automatically on the declared FOB value, subject to the notified rate and per-unit cap.
- A scroll is generated. A scroll listing each shipping bill and its admissible amount appears in your ICEGATE account.
- Create your RoDTEP credit ledger in the credit ledger section of ICEGATE, if you have not done so.
- Generate the e-scrip. Select the eligible shipping bills in the e-scrip section and generate a transferable e-scrip.
- Use or transfer it. Quote the scrip details in a Bill of Entry to pay basic customs duty, or transfer it to another IEC holder through ICEGATE with the OTP check.

RoDTEP with drawback, RoSCTL, GST refunds and EPM
| Combination | Allowed? | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| RoDTEP and duty drawback | Yes, together | ICEGATE’s advisory says the RoDTEP claim is allowed in addition to drawback, because they refund different taxes. Make the correct scheme-code declarations. |
| RoDTEP and RoSCTL | Item-level rules apply | RoSCTL covers apparel and made-ups. It has its own declaration rules for Chapters 61 to 63, so ask your broker and read the ICEGATE advisory. |
| RoDTEP and the GST refund | Yes, separate | The GST refund of input tax credit or IGST is a separate process. RoDTEP covers taxes that are not otherwise refunded. |
| RoDTEP and the Export Promotion Mission | Separate schemes | EPM supports credit, certification and logistics. Check each scheme’s guidelines so the same cost is not claimed twice. See Guide 3. |
Plan for 31 December and 2027
The scheme has been extended in short windows. Here is how to plan for each outcome.
| Scenario | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| DGFT extends again | Benefit continues at the notified rates and caps | Keep claiming; update your pricing review date |
| DGFT revises rates or caps | A different rate applies from the effective date | Re-check Appendix 4R and 4RE for your HS codes and re-price |
| The scheme lapses after 31 December | Exports after the end date earn no RoDTEP unless extended or replaced | Quote 2027 orders without RoDTEP, or with a price-adjustment clause |
- Price with a buffer. For long contracts running past 31 December 2026, do not build RoDTEP into a fixed price without a clause for the scheme ending or changing.
- Know your exposure. Work out what RoDTEP is worth on your product mix. Use the estimator above, and see whether it is a thin or a thick part of your margin.
- Watch mid-December. Earlier extensions arrived at the very end of the window, so check DGFT’s notifications in the last two weeks of December.
- Collect what is due. Make sure every eligible shipping bill from 2026 has been scrolled and turned into an e-scrip before you close your books.
- Revisit the February to March 2026 window. Confirm that shipments in that period were credited at the restored rates.
Mistakes that cost exporters money
- Filing the shipping bill without the RoDTEP declaration, which cannot be corrected later.
- Using the wrong HS code, so the rate, the cap or the eligibility is wrong.
- Forgetting to create the RoDTEP credit ledger and generate the e-scrip, so credit sits unused.
- Ignoring the per-unit cap when estimating the benefit.
- Assuming the 50% cut of February 2026 still applies, or not checking the ledger for that window.
- Looking at Appendix 4R when your export falls under Advance Authorisation, EOU or SEZ rules (Appendix 4RE).
- Treating RoDTEP as cash. It is an electronic credit, not a bank refund.
- Building RoDTEP into long fixed-price contracts that run past 31 December 2026.
- Relying on an old blog’s rates without checking the current appendix and the date.
- Not checking IEC, AD code and bank details on ICEGATE, so claims fail validation.

Frequently asked questions
Is RoDTEP available in 2026, and until when?
Yes. DGFT Notification 41/2026-27 of 30 September 2026 extended RoDTEP to 31 December 2026 for domestic exporters, Advance Authorisation holders, SEZ units and EOUs. The rates and value caps in force on 30 September 2026 continue unchanged. Unless it is extended again, the scheme ends on that date.
Were RoDTEP rates cut in 2026?
Temporarily. DGFT Notification 60/2025-26 of 23 February 2026 cut rates and value caps to 50% for most products outside HS Chapters 01 to 24. Notification 66/2025-26 of 23 March 2026 restored the earlier rates, and trade reports say the restoration covers exports from 23 February to 31 March 2026. Check your ICEGATE ledger for shipments in that window.
What is the current RoDTEP rate for my product?
Rates are notified per eight-digit ITC-HS code in Appendix 4R (domestic exporters) and Appendix 4RE (Advance Authorisation, EOU and SEZ exporters), usually as a percentage of FOB value with a per-unit value cap. Trade guides put typical rates between about 0.3% and 4.3%. Look up your exact line in the appendix on the DGFT website rather than relying on a general band.
How do I claim RoDTEP?
Declare the RoDTEP claim for each eligible item in the shipping bill when you file it. After customs processes the bill and the export manifest is filed, a scroll is generated in your ICEGATE account. You then create a RoDTEP credit ledger, generate an e-scrip and use or transfer it. There is no separate application.
Can I claim RoDTEP if I forgot to declare it on the shipping bill?
Generally no. The claim has to be declared in the shipping bill at the time of export, and trade and ICEGATE guidance warn that it cannot be added later. Ask your customs broker to make the declaration a standard step for every shipping bill.
Can I claim RoDTEP and duty drawback together?
Yes. ICEGATE's advisory says the RoDTEP claim is allowed in addition to drawback, because they cover different taxes. Use the correct scheme codes and declarations in the shipping bill. RoSCTL has its own declaration rules for apparel and made-ups.
How is the RoDTEP benefit calculated?
The benefit is the notified rate multiplied by the FOB value, limited by the per-unit value cap where one applies. In practice you take the lower of the rate-based amount and the cap-based amount. Our estimator on this page does the sum.
What can I do with a RoDTEP e-scrip?
The e-scrip is a transferable electronic credit. Exporters can use it to pay basic customs duty on imports, or transfer it to another IEC holder through ICEGATE. Check the validity and conditions printed on your scrip.
Does RoDTEP apply to services?
No. RoDTEP is for exports of goods, by manufacturers and merchant exporters. You need an Importer Exporter Code and an ICEGATE registration, and there is no minimum turnover.
What happens to RoDTEP after 31 December 2026?
That depends on the government. Unless DGFT notifies an extension, shipments after 31 December 2026 will not earn the benefit. The scheme has been extended in short windows through 2026, and the Union Budget set aside less money for 2026-27 than for 2025-26, so plan for both outcomes and watch for a notification in December.
How do I know if my shipments in February and March 2026 were credited correctly?
Compare the credit for each shipping bill with the rate and cap in force. If a shipment from 23 February to 31 March 2026 shows a 50% credit, raise it with your customs broker or the ICEGATE helpdesk and refer to Notification 66/2025-26 and its corrigendum.
Is RoSCTL also extended?
Business Standard reported that RoSCTL for apparel and made-ups was extended to 31 December 2026 as well. Confirm against the DGFT notification before you rely on it.
